Did you ever wish you had more Will Power?

Do you want more will power?  You might be closer to great will power than you think.

Before we get there, let’s first look at three aspects of the Brain that affect your will power

Hedonic Areas

Hedonic areas of the brain include parts of the brain that require little to no thought process, almost automatic part of your thinking.  Ingrained habits are part of the hedonic functions.

Executive Areas

The executive area of the brain oversees a lot of your conscious functions and behavior

What can improve executive functions for improved will power?

  • Sleep

  • Exercise

  • Reduce Stress

  • Practice Mindfulness

  • Some medications (talk to your physician)

Leptin

Leptin is the Gate keeper to weight gain and weight loss

Leptin signals the brain about energy stores and if you need more or if you are fine.

Will Power Can Be Trained

The good news is you can train yourself to have more will power.

First, believe you can improve your will power.

Next, practice using will power.  You will not always succeed, but the more you practice, the more you will improve.

You can also create “rules” for yourself until healthy actions are ingrained habits where you no longer need to think about healthy choices.

Finally, practice a growth mindset by giving yourself stepping stones to improvement, slowly improving your will power over time.
